Zambezi Sunset Cruise or Dinner Cruise?

Zambezi sunset cruise or dinner cruise at Victoria Falls: times, daylight for wildlife, food, price, and the sunset cruise with dinner ashore at The Eatery.

Updated November 2026

Book the sunset cruise if you want the most daylight on the river for animals and photographs, and dinner in town afterwards; book the dinner cruise if the meal on the water is the point and you accept that half of it is eaten after dark. A sunset cruise runs about two hours from 4 pm or 4:30 pm with canapés and drinks; Pure Africa’s on the Zambezi Explorer costs from $69 a person (checked November 2026). A dinner cruise runs about 5 pm to 8 pm with a full meal, from $110 (checked November 2026). The evening that does both is a sunset cruise followed by dinner on the riverbank.

The calendar above is Pure Africa’s sunset cruise on the Zambezi Explorer, a three-deck boat: canapés and drinks on the two lower Luxury Decks, or premium canapés and drinks from a mixologist on the top Signature Deck, two hours with hotel transfers in Victoria Falls town.

A sunset cruise is timed so the sun goes down while you are still on the water. On a dinner cruise in June the sun is gone within an hour of boarding, and by the main course the river is dark; in December you have nearly two hours of light. If seeing animals matters more than the meal, the sunset cruise wins in winter.

Sunset and dinner cruises use the same stretch of river above the falls; Pure Africa’s both leave from its waterfront.

What each one is like on board

The sunset cruise is a drinks party on the move. Pure Africa’s Zambezi Explorer takes up to 150 guests on three decks, and guests choose their deck when they book; reviewers write about lounge chairs at the front, the drinks list and the speed of service at busy times. Some found the canapés too few to count as dinner, which is why most people eat afterwards.

The dinner cruise is a seated meal: a set table for the evening, courses that keep coming, and a quieter boat once the light has gone. On Pure Africa’s Zambezi Breeze up to 70 guests dine on two levels, on the Zambezi Reflections no more than 24. The dinner cruise boats compares them, and the menu lists the courses.

The evening that does both

Pure Africa sells a two-hour sunset cruise on the Zambezi Explorer followed by a three-course à la carte dinner at The Eatery, its restaurant on the riverbank at the same waterfront, with wine and water at dinner and other drinks from a cash bar: the sunset cruise with dinner at The Eatery, from $110 a person (checked November 2026). You get the full daylight on the water and a table that does not move, at the price of the dinner cruise.
