The Zambezi Dinner Cruise Menu, Boat by Boat

What is served on a Zambezi dinner cruise: the four courses on the Zambezi Breeze, six on the Zambezi Reflections, the drinks included and dietary requests.

Updated November 2026

No dinner boat on the Zambezi publishes a fixed dish list, because the menus change with the season. What the operators do publish is the shape of the meal. Pure Africa’s Zambezi Breeze serves four courses, a starter board, a seasonal starter, a main course and dessert, with alcoholic and soft drinks included, from $110 a person (checked November 2026). Its Zambezi Reflections serves six, from an amuse-bouche to dessert, with premium drinks. Any dietary need has to be sent in at least 24 hours ahead.

On the Zambezi Breeze

Pure Africa’s four courses are prepared on board and served at set tables over the three hours, with the sunset in the first half of the evening and the later courses after dark. In the newest 350 reviews (April to November 2026), guests name ostrich and fillet steak among the mains: one guest’s advice was to order the ostrich, another found the fillet chewy. Drinks are included, alcoholic and soft, and more than one reviewer was surprised that the aperitif, the wine and the water all came with the price.

On the Zambezi Reflections

The six-course Classic Dinner Cruise is the longer meal: an amuse-bouche, a cold starter, a hot starter, a palate cleanser, a choice of main course and dessert, with a welcome drink, a cold face towel and wines chosen to go with the food. Because a vessel may not be used on park waters at night without a ZimParks officer’s written permission, the boat comes back to the Pure Africa Waterfront jetty after sunset and the rest of the meal is served moored there. Drinks after 8 pm are on your own bill, and children under 12 do not come on this cruise. Pure Africa prices it at US$185 a person (November 2026); on GetYourGuide it is the upgrade option of the dinner cruise above.

On the Malachite and the Moon Dancer

The Malachite’s dinner is four courses cooked on board by two chefs, served on the lower deck after a sunset drink upstairs: a soup, a starter, a main course and dessert, with the drinks included. Its sample menu offers Zambezi bream, Zimbabwean beef or an aubergine gratin as the main (Wild Horizons’ Malachite trade sheet, November 2026). Bush Cuisine builds the Zambezi Origins dinner on the Moon Dancer around the river itself: after the canapés, each course takes its ingredients and flavours from one of the six countries the Zambezi runs through, from its source in Zambia to the Indian Ocean in Mozambique: see Zambezi Origins on the Moon Dancer, from $110 (checked November 2026).

Vegetarian, allergies and children

  • Dietary needs: Pure Africa asks for them in the special requests when you book, or at least 24 hours before the cruise on the WhatsApp number on your voucher; requests sent later cannot be guaranteed. Do the same with any operator, and repeat it to the crew when you board.
  • Children: on the Zambezi Breeze, children under 12 pay half; the Zambezi Reflections takes no children under 12; on the Malachite, children aged 3 to 11 pay half and infants up to 2 go free.
  • Seating: tables are set before you board. In the newest 350 reviews (April to November 2026), solo travellers wrote that they were seated at the front of the boat, sometimes beside other solo guests.

What the reviews say about the food

The food is what most reviewers of Pure Africa’s dinner cruise write about, and the cruise has 1,328 reviews (checked November 2026). Among the newest 350 (April to November 2026), the complaints are few and specific: a main course that waited too long before it was served, a steak that was more looks than taste, one blocked toilet on board, and one couple who fell ill afterwards. A vegetarian couple found the vegetarian choice very limited and had to remind the crew more than once, so state it clearly when you book. The praise is mostly for the service and for the drinks being included.

What to wear

Dress for an evening outdoors on the water. The decks are open, and in the southern winter, May to August, the air cools quickly once the sun has gone, so bring a warm layer. Smart casual is what booking agents in Victoria Falls advise for the dinner boats; nobody publishes a stricter code. Insect repellent is worth carrying at dusk on any river in the tropics.
