The Evening, Step by Step

From the hotel pickup to the last course.

  1. Pickup in Victoria Falls Town

A vehicle collects you from your hotel or lodge in Victoria Falls town, within about 5 km of the river; hotels in Livingstone, Zambia, are not on the run. Bring US$12 in cash for the national park fee, which is paid at check-in.

  2. A Drink, Then Your Table

The cruise leaves the Pure Africa Waterfront at about 5 pm. Your first drink is poured and you are shown to a set table; on the Zambezi Breeze up to 70 guests dine on two levels, on the Zambezi Reflections no more than 24.

  3. The Sunset over the River

The boat idles up the river above the falls while the courses come out. The sun sets at Victoria Falls between about 5:50 pm in June and 7 pm in January, so watch the banks early: hippos and crocodiles in the shallows, and elephants that come down to drink.

  4. Dinner into the Dark, Back by 8

The rest of dinner is served after nightfall; on the Zambezi Reflections the last courses are served moored at the waterfront jetty. The evening ends at about 8 pm and the vehicle takes you back to your hotel.

The Evening

What a Dinner Cruise on the Zambezi Is Like

Which boats serve dinner, what comes to the table, when the sun goes down, and what you pay on top of the ticket.

A Zambezi dinner cruise is an evening on the upper Zambezi River, a few kilometres above Victoria Falls, with dinner served on the boat while the sun goes down over the water. Most of them leave from the Zimbabwean side, from jetties a short drive from Victoria Falls town, at about 5 pm and are back around 8 pm. The easiest to book is Pure Africa’s: four courses on the Zambezi Breeze, with the drinks included, from $110 a person (checked November 2026), plus a US$12 national park fee paid in cash at check-in.

The short answer

For a first evening on the river with the least to arrange, book Pure Africa’s dinner cruise, sold on GetYourGuide as Victoria Falls: Dinner Cruise on the Zambezi River. A vehicle collects you from your hotel or lodge in Victoria Falls town, the boat leaves the Pure Africa Waterfront at about 5 pm, and you sit at a set table for a four-course dinner prepared on board the Zambezi Breeze, with alcoholic and soft drinks included. The same booking can be upgraded to six courses on the Zambezi Reflections, a smaller boat that is a floating restaurant. It costs from $110 a person, with 1,328 reviews (checked November 2026).

Check dates for the dinner cruise

If you want a different boat and a different kitchen, Bush Cuisine’s Zambezi Origins serves its dinner on the Moon Dancer, a double-deck boat, with each course built around one of the six countries the Zambezi flows through: see Zambezi Origins on the Moon Dancer, from $110 (checked November 2026).

The boats that serve dinner

Plenty of boats run sunset cruises on this stretch of the river; only a few serve a sit-down dinner. These are the dinner boats we could confirm:

Pure Africa’s and Wild Horizons’ own pages, Wild Horizons’ Malachite trade sheet and the Zambezi Origins listing, November 2026.

Pure Africa prices the Zambezi Breeze at US$110 a person, half price for children under 12, and the Zambezi Reflections at US$185, on its own rates for November 2026. On the Zambian side, the only dinner served aboard that we found is the African Queen’s Full Moon Dinner Cruise from Livingstone, from US$90 and sold on enquiry. The Zambezi dinner cruise boats compared goes through each boat, and the dinner cruise menu sets out what each kitchen serves and which drinks are included.

Map of the upper Zambezi River above Victoria Falls: the Pure Africa Waterfront upstream of Victoria Falls town in Zimbabwe, Livingstone in Zambia, the Victoria Falls Bridge, and the Zambezi National Park and Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park on either bank
The dinner cruises board upstream of the falls and stay on the wide, calm river above them; Livingstone is across the border.

How the evening runs

The pickup comes to your hotel or lodge in Victoria Falls town; Pure Africa collects guests within about 5 km and not from Livingstone. Its waterfront is about 5 km from town, a 10-minute drive, where the river’s first and second channels meet just beyond Kalai Island. You board at about 5 pm, a drink is poured, and the boat idles upstream between the islands.

The sun sets at Victoria Falls at about 7 pm in January and about 5:50 pm in June, so in the southern winter (May to August) a good part of a 5-to-8 dinner runs after dark, and in the summer months more of it is in daylight. Zimbabwe’s parks regulations do not let a vessel be used on park waters at night without an officer’s written permission, which is why the six-course cruise finishes its dinner moored at the jetty. The best time for a Zambezi cruise has the sunset month by month and what the river level does.

What you may see from the table

The cruises run along the frontage of the Zambezi National Park, which ZimParks puts at 40 km of river, with Zambia’s Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park on the far bank. Hippos are the animal guests mention most, then elephants, which come down to drink or swim across to the islands, and crocodiles on the sandbanks. Nothing is promised: in the newest 350 reviews of Pure Africa’s dinner cruise (April to November 2026), about one in six of those who wrote something named hippos and about one in nine named elephants, and a couple said darkness came before the animals did. Wildlife on a Zambezi cruise has the share of reviewers naming each animal.

What it costs on top

  • The park fee. ZimParks’ 2026 tariff charges international visitors US$12 a person for the Zambezi River, and the operators collect it at check-in. Bring it in cash.
  • Drinks after 8 pm on the Zambezi Reflections, and premium brands on some boats.
  • Tips, which no listing includes.

Zambezi dinner cruise prices sets every boat’s price side by side with the month it was checked.

Dinner cruise or sunset cruise?

A sunset cruise is two hours of drinks and canapés from about 4 pm or 4:30 pm, back at the jetty around sunset, leaving the evening free for dinner in town; a dinner cruise trades some of the daylight for a full meal on the water. Sunset cruise or dinner cruise weighs the two, and if you are staying in Livingstone, Zimbabwe or Zambia explains the border and the cruises on the Zambian bank.

Dinner on the Zambezi at Sunset

Pure Africa's three hours above Victoria Falls: four courses on the Zambezi Breeze with the drinks included, or an upgrade to six on the Zambezi Reflections, and hotel transfers in Victoria Falls town. Starting from $110 per person.
